OICE at the EFCA 30th Anniversary in Brussels

“As we celebrate our 30th Anniversary, our contribution to the EU transition to a resilient, green and digital built environment are set out in our manifesto, launched today” says Benoît Clocheret, President of EFCA. “Consulting engineers are the technical designers in the construction ecosystem. Without their high level of skill and knowledge about how built assets function on a structural and technical level, there will be no progress towards climate resilience or the digitalisation of the industry.”

To mark this milestone, EFCA is hosting a number of events, including an evening reception for members and invited guests, featuring speeches from Sirpa Pietikäinen MEP and Katharina Knapton-Vierlich, Head of Unit for construction in DG GROW. In addition, its publication Delivering a resilient, green and digital built environment gives a number of policy recommendations.

“We are an indispensable partner for EU policy makers and today we are sending a clear message that we want to collaborate, not only with those that initiate and adopt legislation at EU level, but also with other stakeholders in the industry” says Sue Arundale, Director General. “We are creative and proactive and today we have proposed 20 specific potential solutions to improve current policy.”

The manifesto covers the climate emergency, twin green and digital transitions, sustainable development public procurement and standardisation. It also highlights the need for more young people to choose engineering as the profession of choice and it looks ahead to future trends and the growing adoption of new technologies.
